    DefaultSilver Labs

    Hi Everyone...
    I have not been on here for a while. I own a beautiful Lab boy and have come here many times in the past for good advice and help.
    I was on a horse forum (one of my other passions) and a breeder of silver labs posted a thred promoting their "silver labs". Here is a link ..... to see the thred go to "Off Topic" and click on it. You will see the subject.

    I tried my hardest to educate this person but it didn't work. What is it about these BYB??? ..... and they have the nerve to talk about BYB somewhere in their post. Crazy people. Feel free to help me out.

    Also search this forum for a recent post by "WigWag" on the genetics of silver coats.

    oh come on - 96hrs before a new member can post!!

    links and info::

    Statement from the Labrador club (which dictates standards for the AKC)
    http://www.thelabradorclub.com/library/silver.html
    There is no genetic basis for the silver gene in Labradors. The silver color is a disqualification under the Standard for the breed. The LRC does not recognize, accept or condone the sale or advertising of any Labrador as a silver Labrador. The Club opposes the practice of registering silver as chocolate.

    I think I used most of the links suggested. It is just so frustrating these BYBs. They even have the nerve to say something about BYBs in one of their posts. No doubt they do not health test, although it does say they guarantee hips for 2 years? They even have PART of the standard on their website...lol. :

    what i don't get is the quote saying the labrador retreiver club accepts silvers as chocolates. BUT ON THE SITE OF THE LABRADOR CLUB it clearly says they DO NOT ACCEPT THAT!

    Oh, as if it couldn't get worse. Another "silver lab" breeder has chimed in on the topic supporting the other breeder.

    Some people are not educable, and people who are making a buck off of misinformation have a vested interest in keeping the waters muddy. Just say what you have to say and get out; life is short.

    The AKC accepts silvers as chocolates, I think that is what you are thinking. The LRC does not accept silvers at all period.
