So I went to see my dog food lady today, and while I was there I asked her what she recommended in lieu of topical flea treatment. She was not a fan of garlic/brewer's yeast, but gave me a recipe for a spray. It's just the juice of a lemon and a fresh sprig of rosemary, steeped in boiling water and let set overnight. You spray them twice a week during flea season.
Anyone? Thoughts? I think I'm going to try it.

Give it a try. It can't hurt. I'm kinda doubtful, but she'll probably smell nice.
Hey, if it doesn't work, you can spray it on some shrimp for a quick grill-marinade!
hehehehe that's true!!Originally Posted by dweck

Let us know how it works. It has to be better for them than the other drug products!
Let us know if it works. I bought this stuff called critter oil. I bought it a few , well more than a few months ago and never tried it. Heard its really good and safe for humans.
LOL! When I saw five replies I was all excited because I thought you had something helpful to say! :P
Oh well, yeah, I will give it a try, and if all else fails I will add some olive oil and have a nice salad dressing.
Actually, I have read in a few places something about bugs not liking citrus (citrus, citronella...) So, kind of makes sense?
I hope it doesn't bleach out Simon's coat though!

Connie, Take a look at Neem Oil.
I think over time the lemon juice would make the coat sticky and may even lighten Simon's coat (years ago kids I hung out with used to lighten their hair with the Lemon juice and the sun)
Eric, she had some Neem Oil spray, and that was her other suggestion. But it was a pretty small bottle and looked like it would be gone in about four applications. Do you have any idea how often you have to apply it? The bottle didn't say...

You can try it, but IMO it won't work.
