DefaultGOOD NEWS!!! GET IN MY POST!!!!

I just got the call! I am shaking all over with delight right now!

We just got back from the Greenway and I had just sat down at the computer. My cell phone rang in the kitchen and I almost broke my neck getting in there to answer it.

The vet said, "Well, I got your results back from UT. Then I had to call the lab back because I had a question. But anyway..."

I am thinking, SPIT IT OUT! SPIT IT OUT!

He said, "The lab reported a low mitotic index of about 0-1..."

I interrupted, "What does that mean, mitotic index?"

He explained that was an indication of how aggressive the tumor is likely to be. A low mitotic index is GOOD! ;D I have read a lot about how Grade 2's can either behave like Grade 1's, or Grade 3's. I think this puts it more in the category of behaving like a Grade 1.

    GREAT NEWS!

Then he said that based on the mitotic index, UT recommended staging it (YES! Exactly what I wanted to happen next!) He sort of put it like this was optional - "If you guys want to do that..." I think we should, absolutely. What this involves is ultrasounds of liver and spleen, aspiration of spleen and lymph nodes to make sure there are no mast cells in those, CBC and urinalysis.

He also said that while they do have ultrasound equipment, there is a lady who travels from vet to vet and does ultrasounds for those who don't have it in their offices. He said her equipment is a little newer and gives a finer, more detailed image than theirs, so he would like to set up a time for her to come in and do the ultrasound.

So we have to pick a few days and report to the front desk, then they will see when they can schedule everything. Angus will be dropped off for the day, get his tests, and then he will need to be re-tested every 3 months for a while, then every 6 months.

Sounds like a GREAT plan to me!

Now...does my vet rock out or what?

SO!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGUS!!!!! IT'S A BIG OLE' PARTY AT THE ANGUS HOUSE TODAY!

Go Angus, it's your birthday, Go Angus...

Thank you Lord. Thank you so much.

ETA: I just found this about mitotic index. Interesting if you're curious about what mitotic index is and how it is used to assess MSTs:
