It was a regular lab rescue meet 'n greet affair. I'd been volunteering for about 6 months. Just another Saturday, just another parking lot filled with more wonderful sloppy sitting labs and all our rescue information and paraphernalia.
Time to wind up the day. Our intake person calls out "We've got one who needs an overnight. Our clinics are full and his fosters are out of town but will pick this guy up tomorrow." My hands were free at the moment so I asked to walk him around for a while. She hands him off to me. Okay, he's spirited but well behaved. And gosh! He sure is a good looking boy!
"I've got him overnight, Vick. I'll call ya later." And off this black boy and I stroll as pretty as you please to the PaddyWagon. He got in, settled right down, and we drove home. I called Tudor on the way. "Honey? Listen..."
We get home, black boy walks all nice-like onto the front porch, gently kisses our cat sitting by the front door and in we went. The kitty-kiss pretty much sealed the deal, but I was still willing to simply "overnight" him.
After about 30 minutes of seeing this guy so blend right into the herd, Tud said, "Nance, if your group can't find a good home for him we can keep him. We'll find a way."
Well! I nearly knocked over all the furniture racing for the phone. "Vick! Can you bring me those adoption papers PRONTO?" She brought them the next morning and the black boy was named Flynn on the spot.
Here is that beautiful boy now.
Seamus and Flynn
Oh Flynn...you are a handsome devil and you melt my heart. :-* I'm so glad your mom kept you so that we could get to know you!
He's worth the bruised ribs and black eyes, Nance?
He's worth all that and more, Janna. He's worth the bruised ribs and black eyes, Nance?

I think the special rogue black boys are the best.
Erns says " Flynn glad you found a real nice home. Just think of the fun we could have if the boss ladies let us loose together."
I think that is one of the best stories about getting a dog I have ever heard. Somehow I can just picture you making a b-line to the phone..lol
That's a wonderful story. I love to hear of foster "failures."

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
