DefaultWhere did your dog's name come from?

The more different dog names I see on here, the more I wonder where the names came from/what the story is behind the name. So - how did you come up with your dog's name?

I'll start. Champ is actually named after my husband's grandfather - it was his military call-sign, and was a nickname that stuck throughout his life. It also sounds very much like our last name (which is I suppose where the nickname came from to begin with...)

So - where did everyone else's names come from?

DH had two other labs a long time ago (from the same breeder that Clarence is from). They were named Annabel and Barkley. A, B, and now Clarence is "C"! Our Wheaten, Dudley, was the "D" and so now we're trying to come up with an "E" name for the next one in the spring. I wonder if we'll ever get through the whole alphabet?

We kicked around names for a couple weeks waiting. I wanted one I could make heard in the field and was easy to say, Rita finally asked about Rowdy, for the Clint Eastwood charector in Rawhide. And it fits him good also. ;D

Lucy is named after a very sweet little girl we met at a party right before we got Lucy.
She was a daughter of a coworker of SU. She was full of personality and we thought the name was perfect for our Lucy.
We had other names in mind but Lucy was what suited her.

Maggie came with that name from the people we rescued her from. I think the name fits her. And when she is a bad girl I like calling her Maggot.

For us, I wanted a name that went with Black. After pondering a few, Pitch Black was fitting...now we had to find a dog to put it on. Yup, had the name before the dog :-[

Sherman, was named because he was built like a 'Sherman Tank"...

Bosley, came to us as "Bosco" but he seemed not to like that name....I just thought he looked like a "Bosley". I called him that, and he came to me and smiled !! He likes it !

Charlie Brown, I wanted a brown dog I could call Charlie Brown, after the Peanuts character.

Ginger, was a sort of snutey, snippy little gal when she came to us..... "Gingersnap" came into my mind, and we called her Ginger.

    Melissa

Paddy was named after my husband's first lab from 30 years prior.
Seamus was named to continue the Irish names going.
    Flynn... ditto as Seamus.

If we ever have another yellow, he will be "Murphy".

    Seamus and Flynn
