Well....he came home yesterday but not without a little hitch. When he had the left leg done, he had the stitches that dissolved and we had no problems with licking, etc. With this one, he has staples because Dr. Lew didn't like how the closure looked with just the stitches for some reason. Also, the ICU folks said he was trying to lick as soon as he woke up so he had to get a lampshade.
He was happy to see me yesterday when I picked him up, but he is also a little put out with me since I am the one who took him in on Wednesday morning. When we got home he wagged his tail at my son and also at my husband when he got in from work. Did I get a tail wag? Noooooooooooo! Finally, this morning he has stopped giving me the cold shoulder.
Zeke is serving as his Nurse dog. I think he must have brought every toy they own to Gus to try to cheer him up. I put one of their spare beds in front of the back door so Gus could lay beside me while I was using the computer. Zeke has been laying right beside him most of the morning. I am keeping a good eye on him to make sure he doesn't get near the leg. So far he has been making sure that Gus has clean eyes and ears.
Thanks again for all the good thoughts sent out for Gus.
Awww, poor baby. I hope he has a quick recovery.

I hope he has a quick recovery
I'm happy to see he's home and he's ok. Buddy had staples. He never bothered with them. I think the site of them hurt me more than him.
I'm still waiting for our surgeon to call us in. He said there was no point in going until he needed us. Meantime it's 1:20 and we are both starving.
Keep us (me) posted on Gus's recovery. I hope it's uneventful.
Get well soon, Gus! I hope you don't have to wear your lampshade for long.

Awwwww.... so glad he's home, and the surgery went well !1 ((((hugs)))) to Gus !
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
Aren't they just pathetic when they have to wear the cone of confusion? Poor guy. When Cooper had his on, he managed to ding every corner of every wall on the main floor. Not sure who was happier when that thing came off - me or him!
Get well soon, Gus.
Glad that Gus is home and hope he has a quick recovery. What a lovely boy Zeke is to be so concerned about his brother
