hey everyone, how does 800 compare for a reputable breeder. I was referred to this lady by multiple people
To be honest, it depends on where you are. Around where I am, pet quality Labs are right around $1,000.
I have heard of reputable breeders selling their puppies anywhere from $800-1500, but puppymill puppies are often sold within that range too.
Can you post the name of your prospective breeder or their website if they have one?
Price really cannot be used as an indicator of quality when it comes to choosing a pet.
I'm Jenn. Keeper of two labs in my home and one forever in my heart.
Throw the ball, damn it!
I'm not trying to determine quality, I'm just asking is 800 a pretty standard price for a reputable breeder.
It's a bit on the low side unless you live in certain areas of the country. I do know a few reputable breeders who price that low, but not many.Originally Posted by wkbrdr03

I think posters are trying to break apart your statement from "reputable breeder" and that somehow can be associated with the price of $800.00. Yes, $800 is a price that any and all breeders can and do charge--reputable or not. Also, puppy mills may charge that price. I paid $1,500 for my baby--but I am in one of the most expensive areas of the US.
When I was looking for our lab pup about 6 months ago, here in PA, pricing was between 600-1500 and someone was actually 1800 for a good quality lab.
In this area that is about what I would expect to pay.
