    DefaultRookie's face is swollen...(final update)

I got up this morning...let the boys out...fed them and then noticed that the right right of Rook's face is swollen on his muzzle...he almost looks like a Shar Pei...so I grabbed him and looked for any puncture wounds on the outside, and inside of his lip, and I don't see any thing...put a warm compress and then a cool one on it...and now I am just waiting for 8 am to arrive so I can call the vet and hopefully get him in. He's not terribly uncomfortable...but he doesn't like me messing with it...and I think maybe one of his baby teeth is infected...

So...hoping it's nothing major...I don't like to see my boys ailing!

    Update...
we were able to get right into the vet before they started surgeries and they couldn't find evidence of a puncture or bite marks. The pain that he's in when you touch his face is suspect but she chose to inject him with benedryl for now because of how fast it flared up (he was fine last night) and give anti-biotics. I have to put a cold compress on 2 times a day and benedryl every 4 hours. Poor baby...he's going to be so groggy today.

    Update #2...
The Benedryl knocked him out and he slept for a while. When I got out of the shower and got dressed, I took a look at his mouth and there was an area around one of his teeth that had started to turn grey/white. So I called the vet back and took him right back in. After pushing on his mouth it has been determined that he either has something that he chewed on stuck in his mouth, or it's an abcessed tooth. They are putting him under and draining it this afternoon. So I had to leave my boy at the vet for the afternoon. I sure hope he does okay with the anethetic. Any good thoughts you can spare would be wonderful.

    Update #3...
The vet called. They x-rayed his head to make sure there was no foreign object stuck somewhere and it was clear. Before I left him there...she was pushing on his gums and he was crying out...when they went to get him to put him under, his abcess had ruptured and he had blood all down the side of his face. They drained out some blood and some puss...it was a little of both...not too much of one or another. They also cut a little hole in his gum to make it drain some more. He'll need to stay on anti-biotics for a smidge. I am going to pick him up in about 30 minutes. Hopefully he will start feeling better soon.

We are supposed to go to a show tomorrow where he will see 3 of his littermates while I run Rider in agility....but we will see how he feels.

Thanks for your good thoughts and prayers.

    Final update...
He's home and doing well. I could hear him barking from the front office. His swelling has gone down and Rider and he were happy to see each other. He's been chewing on some toys, but you can tell when he switches sides if it bothers him. His gum color is great and I am happy to have him back home. We'll be keeping an eye on him, but so far, he's no worse for the wear.

    Thanks again guys.

Sounds like a bee sting to me too. Unless it is related to the puppy teeth. Kody was stung as a puppy when he decided to play with a bee. His whole muzzle swelled up just like a Shar Pei. Some Benedryl and a few hours rest and he was fine.

    Hope Rookie feels better soon.

Poor lil' punkin'. Dani, what makes you think a baby tooth is infected?

They look so sad when their faces swell. Hope it's better soon.

Well, his upper canine is turning a little grey and one other tooth is a little brown...they are loose, so they are going to be lost soon...but in the mean time, the could be infected...we will know more after we've had a chance to see if it's an allergic reaction to a bug bite.

He's whimpering big time right now and it's breaking my heart.
