    DefaultMicrochip question

We have decided to have Molly and Jake both microchipped, I called the local animal control here and they tell me their scanner reads both Home Again and Avid. Is one preferred over the other by this board or are they pretty much the same. Animal control wouldn't recommend one over the other. Just wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with either. thanks,
    Joe

Neither are any different. Homeagain's service has been upgraded to where you need to pay a yearly fee...but it keeps track of your pet's medical history....avid is still a one time fee from what I know.

Rider has homeagain and Rookie has Avid...obviously it doesn't matter to me since I have one of each.

I just got Home Again, but that was the only one that was offered to me.

Nellie has Avid since that is what Lab Rescue here in Maryland uses. The local animal shelter also uses Avid.

Thanks for the replys, it really does seem like the thing to do, having them chipped. I guess I will let our vet decide which one he wants to put in, he carries both and it appears the registration is the only difference.

Lexi is chipped with Avid, as that is what Labs4Rescue used when I adopted her.

On a slightly different note, if you are required to license your dogs (We are in Pennsylvania), you might want to check about a "Lifetime" license. When I did Lexi's two (2) years ago, I got her a lifetime dog license for $31. Now I don't have to worry about renewing it and having to pay $7 or $8 dollars each year.

    My pretty girl, Lexi!

Oona has Avid. I would also recommend getting a tag for the collar because Oona's chip has moved down her leg.

my opinion on this is that since your biggest concern would result from your dog being lost and possibly found or taken to the shelter, maybe it's best to use the chip they provide. that way there would be no hitches if your baby turned up at their doorstep.
