my brother's breeder is insisting that owners use NuVet supplements in addition to regular food.
I am just curious if these supplements are indeed that beneficial.
here is the link to the particular brand.
I think the thing your brother needs to investigate is whether the breeder requires that particular supplement to maintain the "guarantee"
I personally think a quality puppy food will be all a growing pup needs

Sure they're insisting.......they get kickbacks.
I do not believe in supplementing. If the food is good then the dog doesn't need additional supplements, IMO. Supplementing puppies can be dangerous and really mess up their growth. I would steer clear of ANY breeder who demands that a puppy buyer give supplements.
Let me clarify and state I do supplement G/C for my dogs and mine get sardines once a week. They do not get "vitamins". Their food does that and since my dogs don't have any major issues they don't need the extra supplementation.

Molly, my breeder's contract for Emma stated that we had to supplement her also...with Missing Link.
We did only to honor the contract we signed but I really do not see why it was necessary. She eats a high quality food, gets fish once a week and I just didnt see the reason for it. Aidan isn't on any supplements at all...he also gets fish once a week and wild salmon oil but I dont see the purpose of supplements if your'e feeding a high quality food.

that was my thought when my brother told me about the supplements.Sure they're insisting.......they get kickbacks
thanks for your input.
Maybe this sheds some light on why? :
Puff [YF, AKC field line (from competing HT/FT breeder) 62 lbs, dob: 8-'01]
Bess [BF, AKC bench line (from competing show breeder) 55 lbs., 1967-1981] "Poor Bess, the Wonder Dog":
Libby came from a less-than-reputable breeder who wanted me to supplement with NuVet, as well... combined with the calcium levels in the regular diet, you end up really over-supplementing them during crucial times in their development. Not good. Having said that, I know a couple of reputable breeders around CA who use it and swear by it. I still wouldn't supplement like that. A good quality diet should be all that you need, especially in a puppy.
Who is his breeder?
