He's 6 1/2 months old now and he still squats to pee. He's my first Lab and my first male dog period so I really don't know a timeline. I'm kidding about the manhood, obviously, but how long is does it take before he should start to hike to pee. I understand that every dog is different. In some cases do males never do anything but squat? I personally don't care. I love him ragardless. I'm just curious.

My Golden Retriever never did lift his leg - some males just don't. Buddy, about 11 months old now, usually squats in the yard, but will also lift his leg when he comes to a place another male has marked.

Twithc is about 6 months and starting doing this about 2 weeks ago, FWIW.
Some lift their leg quicker than others. Some never lift their leg. I think Seamus was about 9 months old before he finally did. When he's in a hurry he just squats.

boone is 3 and he has never lifted his leg. our last dog, buck(not a lab) only lifted in the tall grass at the beach !!!
Sam lifts her leg when peeing against poles or in tall grass.
She's a girl. She never quite gets it as high as the male dogs do, but she lifts a leg.
Murphy used to lift her leg. Now that Shanny has taken over when Murphy died, Shanny lifts her leg.

Duke is 2.5 years old and he just started to lift his leg to pee, he only does it against tall grass though, no peeing on tires yet!
Our Max was maybe 6 or 7 years old before we ever saw him heist his leg. He just always squatted. He started heisting the leg after he spent 3 weeks at my in-laws after we bought the house and were getting everything cleaned up. Their male had to heist his leg on everything, I always laughed that maybe Max decided to do it so Angus didn't see him squat, lol. Madison just goes out and squats until she's done. I've noticed that Sarah will squat multiple times... she'll walk around sniffing and squat for about a second and she's off again.
Apollo never lifts his leg.
