Update: Dr. Lew called about 11:45 and said that all had gone really well with the surgery and that Gus was awake, but still groggy. She said that he had been a real trooper and that they all thought he was a sweetheart. That made me feel really good since he was not happy about staying this morning. If all continues to go well, she will let me know mid-morning tomorrow what time I can pick him up. They are very receptive to phone calls asking how your dog is doing and said I could even call in the middle of the night if I was worried. Thanks again so much for all of your positive thoughts and comments. I know they really made a difference for Gus and that he could feel those Just Labradors vibes coming his way.
I don't post much and haven't said much about this other than posting a couple of weeks ago that Gus was limping. Our vet thought it was a torn cruciate ligament and referred us to an ortho vet in Greensboro. She thought he really needed to have both legs done! We took him for the consultation last Tuesday and it appears that he does have problems with both legs! We took him to our vet after we noticed a limp with his back left leg, but we had never noticed any problems with the right. I feel like a terrible mom! The vet tried to make me feel better and said that it was possible that he was probably masking the symptoms pretty well until he hurt the other leg and then it was more than he could deal with. My poor guy! She showed us all of his x-rays and so forth so I don't doubt that he needs to have both done.
On the plus side, we loved the ortho vet and the clinic and staff. Gus is a flirt so he was very happy that his entire team is female. They loved on him and talked sweet to him just like I do and he was putty in their hands.
Any good thoughts that you could send out for Gus for successful surgery and recovery would be very appreciated.

Awwww, poor baby....what a trooper he is. Sending prayers and good thoughts for Gus.
Sending good thoughts and lots of positive energy for Gus. My Bodie just had this surgery at the end of February and did great with it -- though only one leg. Yikes, that was expensive enough! Anyhow, his recovery has been completely uneventful, and he has no limp whatsoever. So good luck! Dawn
Lots of good thoughts and speedy recovery prayers are headed your way Gus !!
