DefaultFDA and Federal Agents raid Menu Foods and ChemNutra

The FDA conducted a search or Chem Nutra's Las Vegas offices and Menu Foods Emporia Kansas plant. The US Attorneys Office that serves the Kansas area is considering MISDOMENOR charges against Menu Foods.

    From the article:

The sale of adulterated food is a misdemeanor.
Really? So what, then, is the definition of "adulterated" food? Any contamination of a food source, deliberate or not, is a misdemeanor? I am assuming, since they did not specify, that this applies to human food as well. What if this had been something knowingly added to human food that resulted in death? Would that be a misdemeanor as well? Wow! Anyone can put anything they want in my dog's food - and now it seems, my food - and barely get slapped on the wrist! If all the e-coli and salmonella doesn't make me feel terrific about the food I eat, this sure does the trick!

That defined what is legally meant as tampering, but what are the penalties? I remember the Tylenol tampering that happened in the 80s, I'm sure that person went to jail for a long time, but was that because it was a medicine intended for people?

What will be a very interesting legal question will be what will happen if any of the pigs or chickens that were fed 'salvaged' Diamond pet food poison a human.

I'm sorry, there needs to be more severe criminal penalties for all those in charge, but there also needs to be a severe limit put on what we import from other countries. We can't seem to police it well enough, and the standards aren't compatible with our own. We certainly can't trust the CEOs of the companies that use the supplies to watch out for their consumers, it's like the fox guarding the hen house. Worse actually, because the Fox isn't going to play pass-the-buck after he finishes raiding it.

As far as supposed 'savings' passed down to the consumer by outsourcing food, has anyone here seen any price reductions in produce, pet food, or any other such product? I know I haven't. No, outsourcing has increased profit margins for the company officers and THAT IS ALL.

I would say adding rice protein or whatever the heck it is when the product should not have it (not in the list of ingredients) is adulterating the product.

Sounds like "someone" was trying to cut corners.....maybe getting paid for "X" as the protein and adding this junk to up the protein content to save them money.......
