When Tater is outside he will be smelling around and lift his head and one of his front legs. I have seen in some pics on here of other dog that do the samething. Is this just something they do? I have never taken Tater hunting (Cody said a lot of hunting dogs do this. Its a pose they do) I don't have a clue. I always had little dogs growing up and PayLay I do not believe ever did this. Or is this something in the labs blood to do?
I know this sounds crazy but I was just wondering. He does this a lot and sometimes he barks and then goes on with his business. Anyone want to shine some light on this for me?
If you do not understand what I am trying to say let me know and will try a little harder.
Know what you are saying looks like they are pointing at something. Clancey does it as well on occassion. No idea what he sees or smells.
But is this just something they know to do? I think its funny when he does it. Or when he get a smell of something and stands Perfect like I trained him to stand like that. (might not be perfect to those who do the shows. But perfect in my book )
I assume you mean he is pointing.
No, it is not unusual for a dog to "point", especially gundog breeds like Labs. There was a discussion about pointing Labs a couple of days ago...try the 'search' function to find it.
Brigetta will sometimes point if she sees a bird or squirrel that she is really focused on. I wish I had a picture of her doing it because I love the intense look on her face.

Elias points pretty frequently actually. Just 2 weeks ago I got a picture of him pointing, he looked right at me when he was doing it.
I think it's just instinct for a hunting dog to do it, even if they aren't really a "pointing" dog.
Yeah thats what Tater does. I think its funny.
GREAT reference picture, Blacklabelias!

Ernie does this all the time....he is only 10 weeks old and it certainly is not something we showed him how to do.
Cody was telling me its just from years and years of dogs doing this its like in their blood line or something. I know sounds crazy.
