I'm new to this board and new to puppy ownership. A lot of great info here and thanks everyone for all the posting.
I'm getting a yellow female lab and looking for a name. The dog will be a gundog as well as a family pet. I want something unique, sounds good (not to cute) when yelled in a field, and is easy for the dog to learn. I would love all the suggestions and ideas I can get.
I have a female lab & we chose the name Bailey for her, but if we got/get a male I love the name Gage (especially for one that will do some hunting!!). (sounded like the word gauge, but I like it without the "u")
I'm sure you'll good ideas from other members too!
Well, obviously I like Belle . But i also like Mabel and Holly.
And i will just throw in male names as well:
Jasper, Finn and Max.
Please tell us which name you choose, love to know what you have called her!! ;D
My favorite girl name is Nora i like old fashioned names alot! ie edith (call here edde) & ida and more but i can't think of them all right now! God luck can't wait to see her ;D
i told my husband that if we got another lab, we would name her willow. it just sounds refreshing.
I have a male dog but if I had a female instead I'd name her.......Kira. I've always liked that name!
I like the name "Grace" for a girl.
Stick with something one or two syllables. There was an article in Whole Dog Journal a while back (I think it was WDJ...or maybe it was BARK) about naming dogs. The writer theorized that dogs respond to names with hard consonants more readily. Like, "Kip" would be a better choice than "Shelly." Say them aloud to see what I mean. Kip has more punch.
Anyway, whatever you choose, congratulations!
