I have an 8 month old yellow lab named Dooley. Every toy I buy him he destroys, usually within a half an hour. I want him to have fun and play but I've run out of options for toys. What toys do you buy for your babies?
Kongs. The black ones if he's a strong chewer. Fill them with yogurt/applesauce/pumpkin, freeze, and let him have it.
Nylabones- the big ones.
Good cuz/Bad cuz - they'll remove the feet but it will stay intact.
Jolly Ball- originally designed for horses.
If you don't mind the destruction of stuffed animals (and he doesn't eat the parts), you can usually get them at Goodwill for under a dollar. Wash them, and let him rip them up!
Go to www.kongcompany.com they have lots of recipies to fill the Kong's with.
You can also give him raw marrow bones. My Nellie is a pretty powerful chewer and one large bone can keep her busy for up to 5 hours.
I use stuffed animals when I play with my dogs, but I do not leave them alone with the stuffed toys. My dogs love it when I sit on the floor and make the stuffed toys "come alive." It is great opportunity for interaction with them!
I'm Jenn. Keeper of two labs in my home and one forever in my heart.
Throw the ball, damn it!

He LOVES stuffed animals. I buy the cheap ones at the dollar store. They are understuffed so they last a little longer (an hour or so) and he can shake them.
I bought this toy from an ABC catalog called Crazy Dog. It has nubbs all over it and jumps around without any rhyme or reason. He got all excited but ended up chewing the rubber off the nubs in one evening!
I have a Kong toy that someone bought him but he doesn't play with it. I need to fill it with something.
I bought him those large rubber balls that are in wire cages at stores but it lasted only about 5 minutes until it was deflated.
My husband walks him on his 4-6 mile walk. We live in a secluded area so Dooley runs most of the walk. My husband figures he probably doubles the 4-6 mile walk. We also play catch with him alot. And my husband takes him on lots of short rides and wrestles with him.
I need you to understand that Dooley is not a hyper dog. It's just when he gets a toy he chews and chews and chews on it until it's destroyed. He will be panting and STILL chewing.
We love him dearly.
Do you give him just one toy at a time?
Zoe was a destuffer as a puppy. She has 3 laundry baskets full of toys and she's free to destuff whatever she wants b/c they are her toys.
Eventually she stopped destuffing when I taught her to bring the toys to me, and she got a treat.
