DefaultAnybody ever get flack for this?

Kevin just told me a story about our neighbor across the street. Apparently, he was out walking the dogs the other day when one (or maybe both) of them paused to pee on her mailbox. She appeared in her window and started wagging her finger at him. ???

She is bestest friends with her across the street neighbor, who saw fit to come out of her house one day and tell us not to let our dogs pee on her mailbox.

Am I missing something? I understand I am supposed to pick up my dog's poop. Am I now supposed to pick up my dog's pee as well?

Neighbor #1 has nothing at all around her mailbox. Neighbor #2 had a lovely crop of nasty weeds last year. So I really don't think it's spoiling any landscaping.

    ??? Am I being unreasonable?

Never mind all the dogs that run loose in the neighborhood and pee everywhere, anywhere, at will. Kevin has to catch hell because our dogs are the only ones who are escorted.

Asshats. I really have a good mind to write a little love note to her.

I try not to let my dogs, or dogwalking client dogs, use lawns or yard ornaments to pee on - although sometimes its inevitable. I do try to redirect them to firehydrants or light/telephone poles as much as I can.

As soon as one dog marks, every dog within 50 miles will be following suit, and it DOES burn lawns and kill plants, and constant peeing will damage paint and wood.. (you should see the picnic table the Parks dept insists on leaving at the offleash park.. the legs have no paint left on them.

So your neighbour is an annoying busybody, but in the interests of neighbourly harmony, try to keep the dogs moving as you pass her house.

This is exactly why every time I used to catch Buck squatting to pee I'd pulling back to the road!
I inadvertantly trained him to pee and poop right on asphalt only when we are on walks! I guess it's better than him going on some crazy lady's lawn. He doesn't do this anymore now that he is older and does a better job of holding till we get to a more appropriate place for him to eliminate in.

hmm now if someone else's dog peed on the edge of my lawn...I wouldn't really care. If it was in the middle of my lawn I'd care. It's bad enough a patch of my lawn is ruined by my dog's urine. I don't need random people's dog ruinning the rest of it :P
Pooping is fine as long it is picked up right away by the owners!

    OK. You're right. Point taken.

It just pisses me off, though, because OUR dogs are the least of anyone's worries around here. This is the second or third time we have gotten "called out" because our dogs did something in someone's yard. And I know it is only because people are frustrated because of all the loose dogs around. So, they take it out on the first dogs who have humans with them.

Does anyone ever say, "Gee, thank you for being responsible dog owners and walking your dogs on leashes!" Or, "You are so nice to always carry bags and pick up your dog's poop!" Oh noooo! Meanwhile, these people who let their dogs run loose are never hearing a word about anything.

    Not fair.

Oh I can understand your frustration. My neighbors let their dog run right across their street so they can go poop on the empty plot there. They also never pick up after their dog. Common areas are treated the same way. I have complained about this to no avail :

Oh, Connie, I totally feel your pain. Many houses in my subdivision don't have fences, so stray dogs or dogs that are let loose by their owners are free to poop anywhere. Well, our neighbor's house was for sale from September till just a couple of weeks ago. Many dogs pooped in their yard. The neighbors could not sell their house and rented it to a young couple with 5-6 kids (it's a different story). SU and I call them Ned and Maude (Flanders). Ned came over last week complaining about dog poop in his yard, of course assuming that it was Scotty's poop. We told him that there were many people in the subdivision who let their dogs run loose and that we never let Scotty run loose and always pick up his poop.

Well, Ned asked my husband to come over and look at the poop in Ned's yard and try to identify which dogs the poop is from. Needless to say, we try to avoid Ned and Maude now. But it makes me mad that people complain to me even though I'm the most responsible dog owner in the neighborhood.

I don't blame you for being upset Connie, but if it were me, I wouldn't even walk on that side of the street anymore. Apparently it's a hot button of hers. If the dogs pee, it's as good as pushing that button every time, and the result (nasty neighbor) will happen every time.

Along those lines, my neighbor Carolyn, used to have a miniature snchnauzer named Max. (He was the unneutered boy who tried to hump Lady, my black lab, when she came into heat at 6 months...). Well, Carolyn had a 10 yo daughter who loved spending time at our house, and she was pretty forthcoming about family talk. One day she said to me "my dad doesn't like dog poop in our yard, so we have to walk Max so that he doesn't poop in our yard." Nice - like everyone else in the neighborhood *wants* to have Max's poop in their yard! This was in the dark ages when hardly anyone ever cleaned up after their dog, so twice a day you'd see Carolyn walking Max, off leash, up and down the street until he conveniently pooped in someone else's yard. Then they would scurrry home. My neighbors on the other side of me were the usual targets. When they put their house on the market, they had the same problem as Tatyana's neighbors. Their house appeared to be the neighborhood doggie dumping ground. So Todd, the owner, decided to get even. He collected Max's poop for two weeks. Then one morning, he threw ALL of it on Carolyn's driveway. My husband came into the house that morning and said "you'll never believe what Todd just did". Boy, was Carolyn indignant! But that was the last time that she failed to pick up Max's poop.

I dunno. I don't really like it when people let their dogs use my lawn, especially when I'm standing right there. I don't even let my own dog pee just anywhere. I have a spot in the alley I make her go.

I had a go at our mail man when he moaned at me !

The dogs just want somewhere to point their leg - they rarely hit the mark anyway

Hmm...if mine are on leash I try and persuade them to pee in an appropriate area; a grass verge for example. I can see why people would get upset if a dog was peeing on their lawn or shrubs especially if they have put a lot of effort into making it look nice.
