I'm pretty hardy when it comes to weather, and will walk my dogs in almost anything. But tonight was a real challange, from start to finish. The ground is still frozen, covered with a mixture of snow, solid ice and bare patches of ground. It is pouring down rain, and we don't have a flat area of ground on the property. I could barely make it out past the house to the woods trail. Emilu's kennel is completely covered with a inch of water because it can't soak into the ground. We managed to go far enough for the dogs to poop and pee, then I headed down towards the garden because I wanted to see the streams running. The water is just roaring through them because nothing is soaking into the ground. It's dark and foggy and we are all slipping and sliding. What fun!!! Walked around the garden and started up the driveway. Not to bad until we get to the top and head toward the garage. There is mostly solid, wet ice on a slope, with a few small patches of stone showing. I get in the middle and realize I can't make it up without help - I keep sliding -and DON'T want to fall. I call Emilu and grab her collar and tell her "Pull Emilu - Pull" She keeps shaking her collar, wondering why in the world I'm grabbing onto it, then finally it sinks in and she starts pulling me toward the house. Then I'd slip and yell, and she'd stop until I got my balance, then pull me up again. We made it to the garage and whooped it up! I'm staying in the rest of the night!
Glad you're safe and back inside. An experience like that makes you really appreciate 'Hearth & Home' when you get there, doesn't it?
Oh wow...glad all is well!
Whew! Thank goodness you didn't fall. Good thinking, using Emilu to help pull you up. I hope your weather calms down soon.

Wow! That sounded scary! Great that Emilu pulled you up safely. Good girl!
I have used Eddie to pull me up a very steep hill at the park before, he was not impressed................
Glad you made it back in house safe & sound. That kind of mix on the ground plus rain & foggy....good thing you had your dogs to keep you steady.
Hope you are now sitting by a warm fire.
Glad you are safely back in the house. Good girl Emilu!
I have been wearing Yaktrax Pro Snow & Ice Shoe Cleats on my boots or sneakers when I am walking in the snow and ice. They work great and are easy to take on and off your shoes. No slipping or sliding even on solid ice.
Great price here with $4.95 shipping: http://www.basegear.com/yaktraxpro.html
I haven't dealt with that site, it just came up on google and is a great price.
Good girl Emilu!! I'm glad you finally made it to the house in one piece!
We once went hiking through waterfalls in upstate NY, a lot of up and down, if it weren't for Jake pulling me along I don't think I would have made it.
Good thinking Pat! Glad you all made it back to the house safe and sound and in one piece.
