As most of y'all know, my lab Annie had major surgery last year and didn't make it. She was in the equivalent of doggie intensive care for three weeks. The bill kept mounting up, but we didn't care. We were willing to do ANYTHING to try and save her. Both the vet and orthopedic surgeon were absolutely fantastic about the bill. They told us not to worry about anything....that they knew us and knew we would take care of it. As a matter of fact, after the original surgery, they didn't charge us any more for their work....only for the drugs and other hard costs. The work they did themselves (after the surgery) was totally donated by them.
Well, we ended up with a bill of right at $10,000....and no Annie. :'( And we've paid it down to owing now a little over $5,000.
Okay, fast forward to today. I am a professional videographer, and the vet knows this. So he was mentioning the other day that he would like to look into getting a video (DVD) brochure made up instead of getting new print brochures. So I drew up a proposal and met with him this morning and presented it to him. He loved it! ;D And we decided to apply the costs of the video to my bill....which will take a nice chunk off of that $5000.
This really has nothing to do with labs per se, but anything that concerns my Annie even a little is very important to me! I've had a ton of people really criticize me for being so financially irresponsible as to run up a huge debt like that....one we really couldn't afford.....just for a dog. But I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I'd do it for Sally. I'd do it for my Basset Hounds. I'm not saying anyone else should....I can only speak for myself.
But that's my good news for the day!! Sally and I are celebrating with a trip to the park! ;D
That is great news. Enjoy your day at the park !!!
What a great vet....so nice that there are such good folks out there taking care of dogs.
That's wonderful news.
Well Congrats! And you shouldn't let anyone make you feel like you did anything wrong. I have already shelled out over 16 thousand on mercedez's hip and wouldn't hesitate to do it again whether we could afford it or not. These are our children and they love us unconditionally! The people who wouln't do that for their children are the ones who should be critisized! Well you should go out and celebrate and enjoy your day!
wonderful news! i'm glad you shared it. your vet and surgeon both sound like awesome people.

That's great news!!!
We paid almost $3,000 to have an emergency spleenectomy done on Tango, only to lose him 2 months later. Didn't bat an eye and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

and like everyone else has said, POOEY on those people who criticized you for spending on annie. they truly don't understand, and for THAT i feel sorry for THEM!
we too spent close to $3000 on our ER visit for cody, only to have to let her go days later, but i'd do it again in a heartbeat too!
good luck with the video brochure, that sounds really cool!
That's great news! Good for you!
