On the news tonight there was a story about a black lab that ran out onto the "frozen" delaware river and fell through the ice and he struggled to get out but wet under. I was so sad I almost cried and so mad that the owners would be so careless!!!!!
That is really sad.

Oh no how sad. RIp sweet black Lab...
We heard it too and my 8 year old said it best, with her eyes full of tears " Stupid owners"

Oh thats terrible. Poor black baby. :'(
Mckenzie the lab and Maddie the Mastiff wanna be.
I didn't see the report on the news but my mom told me about it when I got home last night. I google it this morning and it appears that it was a very unfortunate accident and not really any fault of the owner...I think we all know how strong a lab can be if it wants to get somewhere. My heart aches for this poor woman.
Yesterday’s dog scare occurred at 8:54 a.m. when a woman was walking the 5-year-old Labon a leash along the banks of the river when it broke free.
The animal charged across the white, rocky ice to chase some geese on the river and fell through about 50 feet in the river, said Acting Captain Mark Buriani.
A police officer in a patrol car saw the dog go in and immediately called the fire department and personnel responded immediately to 1824 Riverside Avenue.
"When we were called the dog’s head was still above the ice," Buriani said.
"By the time we got to the scene 30 seconds later, the dog was under. The owner was seriously upset."
Firemen walked up and down the bank for more than an hour to see if they could recover the dog, but were unsuccessful.
The current under the ice was too strong, and likely carried the dog down the river.
"I wish we could have done something to help the dog," Buriani said.
"The black Lab swan in the river there and was used to going into the river to chase geese. There’s no way it could have survived that frigid water. We did our best, but it wasn’t enough."
Missing you, my friend.

How horrible. I don't think it's the owners fault. Accidents happen, sometimes tragically. I would be a basketcase if I watched my dog die like that. :'(

I wish people would verify stories and use search engines and check www.snopes.com before they post.
