Angus is our first dog that sheds :P, (and by far, the cutest) I am wondering how long a full "blow out" usually lasts? weeks? months? I know it is different for every dog, I am just looking for an "average". Thanks

Last year; mine started around March and went straight through fall! I was practically armless from brushing all spring and summer. Keep the vac close by!

I have heard of that. I also heard that it can remove more than just the undercoat, or more of it than it should. Are they really ok for labs? I don't really mind too much (ok, yes I do :P) But labs come with shedding, and we knew that from the get-go. just takes some getting used to, especially for a woman who can't leave a crumb on her floor, even pre-dog.

I swear by my zoom groom but for the floors i am learning now what it is like.
Emma is pretty bald but this Kelrobin Lab omg....dripping in coat and now my floors are too!!!!!!! He is blowing coat in a major way and the hard wood floors have Aidan dust bunnies tumbling down it. I caught the cats playing with one the other day!

If you show your dog, it usually lasts until the local shows have ended, and the specialty you want to attend has closed.

If not, it seems they shed all year long!

Buddy started blowing coat when he was 11 months old. That was in Nov. 2003. He has yet to stop shedding. I've had a couple days when it's slowed down. But, it never stops. I think it's because of the milder winters.

I would not use the Furminator. You do not want to strip coat; it's there to protect the dog from cold/heat/water. The Zoom Groom is your friend!

As for blowing coat? Theo seems to have about a month of extra-heavy top coat, and a month of undercoat. They don't seem to coincide. Our cat also blows coat, at yet a different time. Bottom line, we're swimming in fur most of the year.

I have a zoom groom knock off :P I am thinking of getting the real deal, just in case there is a difference. I guess it's just a shock to have gone my whole life with floors you can eat off of, even with 2 kids. Now I have absolutely no control over my floors (but we have Angus ;D). Yep, Type A contol freak here.

Did it take anyone else awhile to get used to the shedding, or am I the only weirdo?
