But can a dog be to old? Just wondering. tater might get the snip snip this summer. When I can take some days off and be with him. So he doesn't try and eat the stitches.
hhhm....good question. Call your vet, let us know. Never thought of age being a factor. I know when our pit/boxer was 10 they didn't put her out to do her teeth anymore. (she came to us with advanced periodontal disease and had to have teeth pulled on a regular basis.) Said the risks to heart and other systems was too great. So, she just ate baby food and was happy.
NO. We have neutered 6 and 7 year old boys in rescue before.

Well Tater wont be 6 or 7 when it happens. He just turned one back in Sept. So this summer it will happen. Thank you
He's good to go then. Our Desi was spayed at 1 by the rescue. I thought maybe he was, like, 21 or something and you were just now considering it! ;D By the way, is he named after 'Tater Salad comedian Ron White? If not, forget I said anything.
Dryf was neutered at around 6ish...we had absolutely NO problems and he bounced RIGHT back! Your guy is still very young!

Yes that is who we got his name from. We had that picked out before we got him. Cody said one night (we were drinking) it would be cool to wake up and say to the dog "Its going to be a great day today Tater" So it sticked. I love it. Has a redneck tone to it.Originally Posted by mdsteen
My mom finally neutered her dog when he had a UTI that wouldn't resolve. He's probably 9 or 10 yrs old. He's had no issue with it. Basically as long as the dog is healthy enough to survive the anesthesia, then they can be neutered.
I don't think they are ever too old.
The only way age would matter is if there were an age-related health issue that the dog was not suitable for ANY operation.
If the dog is healthy, no reason why you can't do it at an advanced age.
