I am able to start Tiller on her regular food in about 5-7 days and wondering if I should be cutting back on the amount and times I feed her. Before her surgery she was getting one cup in the am and two cups in the pm. She was around 94 pds this summer ( alot of muscle ) some fat ( bad mom i know ) and is now done to 78 pds due to increased exercise, watching her food intake very closely and since the surgery I would think she is down again. Back to see vet on Thur for removal of her stitches.
When do I cut her back to 2 cups per day? Should I continue feeding twice a day? Tiller is 4 years old. Once better she gets walked for about 45-60 mins per day or at least 5 times per week and gets regular play time out in the yard.
Thanks for any responses
Jacqui and Tiller
Well I have no answer for you about cutting her back to 2 cups per day. Thor is 2 and I'm not exactly sure how much he weighs...maybe 70 something? He gets 2 cups 2x a day. Maybe someone else will have a better answer for you
Mine were getting a total of 4 cups per day, split into two meals. They gained weight this fall/winter, so now they get 3 cups total in two meals. They are 3 and 4 years old.

Bibber, based on the age of your two i should keep her on three cups twice a day
How much does your 4 year old weight?
Rowan gets 3.5 cups per day.... which is divided into two meals.
It would be hard to judge what she should get based on the other dogs here. If you are pleased with her weight at 78 lbs. at 2 cups/day, I would stick with that.
Here is what mine are fed ... even the 95 lb. guy gets only 2 cups/day based on his "build" and his activity level.
Lexi is almost 3 years old. She gets a small amount (1/4 cup or so) in the mornings. I give it to her in her Kong, so she'll leave me be while I am enjoying my breakfast.
The bulk of her food is at night, 1 1/2 - 2 cups, suplemented with green beans or carrots. She's gotten so accustomed to the veggies, she has lately taken to snubbing just plain kibble.
My pretty girl, Lexi!
ZoeZoe, do you feed once or twice a day ?
Beau is fed at 6:00am and 6:00pm...trust me he knows how to tell time...he gets 2 cups 2x a doy of Solid Gold Hund-den-Flogden...
I give Tal 3 cups 4x a day. I do that to make sure he doesn't eat too much at one time so we can avoid any potential bloat.
I will probably wait until he is a year old to cut bakc since that is when I will switch him to adult food.
