Zoe's allergic reaction got me thinking....

    1. What would have happened if she developed an allergy late at night while I was sleeping? Would I have been able to help her in time?

    2. There was no way I would leave her home today; SU is still on Maui. I had to come in to work. Lucikly, she can go to daycare and be supervised.

Do you have alternate plans in case you can't be home w/them?

    Hmmm, good thread.

If one of them wasn't right to the point where I was really worried, I would stay home from work. If it's something minor, I would leave a note for my dogwalker to check out whatever it was.

I'm glad Zoe will be OK. (She will, right? :-\ )

You can get epi pins for dogs too (like the ones humans who are severly allergic can get) I would have one with me at all times so you can give her that before you can get her to the vet. A co-workers dog got stung in the middle of the night a while back they didn't know she was allergic until she woke them up pacing and panting a half hour later all swollen up.
they gave benedryl and rushed her to the vet luckily she's fine now.

As far as not being able to stay home with her I would have to just see if one of my neighbors could keep an eye on her one is retired and home all day and the other works odd hours and is home some days.

    They are my children

Would you leave a sick child on their own ?

    Hardly

Yes, they are my children, but I don't have much sick time on the book.
So, when someone needs to stay home with my girls, it is always my husband, who raely calls in sick and has tons of sick time on the book.
Well, if he is not around, then... Hmmm, I never thought about that...
Made me think that I might need a plan B.

I would definitely work something in out in case one of my dogs was ill and shouldn't be left alone. Whether I worked from home, took a vacation day, or called a friend, I'd do something.

My dad is retired and has come over to check on Manteo if she isn't feeling well. He's so sweet about it too. He calls me at work to give me updates.

Well, it is only an extremely rare occasion when my dogs are left on their own. At least one of us is with them 99% of the time.

It has often crossed my mind that on one of these rare occasions Flynn could have a seizure and he'd be all alone. The other dogs are very good about keeping a bit of distance and I think Flynn would get through it alright, but it just hurts my heart to think we wouldn't be there to comfort him and keep him safe.

I am lucky in that fact that I can take my dogs to work with me. But they also know that if one of my dogs or kids get sick, I am the one that stays homes, takes to doctor, etc. I also plan my vacation around dog shows and puppies.

But I also only work to support my hobby. DOGS
