...is an angel. Seriously, I am certain of it. She is a guardian angel sent down from heaven.
Sheba (yellow lab) was owned by my folks' older neighbor couple. The lady had alzheimers, and would wander off thru the development with a bucket, collecting sticks. Sheba would go along with her every single day, and follow her everywhere. She appeared to lead the lady back home, because I don't know if she always knew where she was. The lady would go to bed at 6:30 in the evenings, so Sheba would spend the rest of her evenings with another neighbor. Unfortunately, the lady had to be put in a nursing home, and her husband is in poor health and couldn't care for Sheba. So Sheba went to live at the house she visited in the evenings.
Sheba also was responsible for rescuing Jack, my parents' mixed breed. Jack was an incredibly sick stray that Sheba brought to their house. I think she knew that they wanted a dog, and that Jack needed them badly (vet later said that Jack was probably a few days away from death, he was so starved). On the first night they had Jack, he escaped because the 4th of July fireworks scared him and he squirmed out of the kennel he was in. My parents didn't know where he went. Then next day, during a thunderstorm, here comes Sheba walking up their driveway with Jack alongside. After they put Jack back in the kennel, Sheba laid on my mom & dad's balcony, during the storm, just watching him and making sure he stayed there.
She makes the rounds in the development every day, checking up on all her friends. I see her every time I'm back home, but over Christmas I finally got to meet her. I happened to be outside as she was coming to visit Jack. I said hi and she came over to me and I rubbed her ears and scratched her neck. There was just something intense about the look in her eyes - I am convinced that she is an angel in a dog's body. I think all labs have a sweet gentle look about them, but she just exuded love, love, love. I keep thinking about her.
Sounds like an angel to me.
She sounds like a very special girl
