Sad news... My next door neighbor's six year old Golden died suddenly last weekend. She let him out to pee while she was getting his supper and he collapsed in her front yard. The vet believes it was a brain aneurysm. He was completely healthy and this was totally out of the blue. I can't believe he is gone.
Anyway, DH and I would like to make a donation to a Golden Retriever rescue organization in his memory, but it hard to just pick one out from the internet. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good one and hopefully one that serves NW Ohio?
Thank you, and please, if you have a minute, pray for my neighbor's comfort during this difficult time. My neighbor's name is Jan, and the dogs name was Gabriel.

Throw the ball, damn it!
Oh dear. :'( Please tell Jan I am so very, very sorry. That has to be one of the hardest things...one minute, completely healthy. I think when it happens suddenly, without any warning...well, that seems much harder to deal with than if you knew something was wrong. It leaves so many questions in your mind that would be hard to reconcile.
I'm sorry I don't have any advice on Golden rescues, but it is very sweet of you guys to do that for her and Gabriel.

Simon, d.b.a. Flat Coated Retriever, CGC, RE, CD
Gone ahead, but forever in my heart:
Crash, Pit Bull x Rottweiler x Golden Retriever
I think it is awesome you want to do that. I don't have any advice but I think I would start with your vet. They may be able to point you in the right direction and have information about Golden rescue organizations in your area.
I am soo sorry about Gabriel. I know your friends must be...well I gues devastated is the best I can come up with. Please know they are in my thoughts and prayers.
I think there are a couple of GR rescues operating in the area. The Temperance Animal Hospital up in Temperance was at one time a contact point for a GR Rescue. Not sure which one. I did a Google and found one that is HQ'ed in Delta but some of their people have Toledo area phone numbers: http://www.gr-rescue.org/index.htm

Dr Bob's office seemed to be pretty tuned in to rescue efforts back when we were clients. Might ask them too.

that's a wonderful idea to make a donation on gabriel's behalf.
run free gabriel!
Jen - there is a good one here in town - can't remember other than golden retriver rescue of...will let you know. How sad!
Jenn- this place is NOT affiliated with the training org you used with bad results - there is another one here in town at the moment that IS affiliated with them.
Hi Jen: I am so sorry for your friends loss, my brother in law passed away in October, also from a brain aneursym at the young age of 35, very sad and shocking no matter how and who it happens to. I just transported 3 labs last weekend that came from Indiana, thru OH and up to a wonderful rescue in NY named All Retriever Rescue, they only rescue retrievers, including Goldens and already one of the sweet boys Trooper, who had broken pelvis from being hit by a truck has an adoption pending! There web site if your friend would like to take a look is www.occretrieverrescue.com. I hope your friends get some comfort by giving another dog a chance at life by donating to a rescue, what a wonderful gesture.
