DefaultScub's at the vets UPDATE 7pm

    UPDATE
We are home and Scub is resting. The surgery took almost 3 hours and he had quite a mess in there. Several large pieces of Kong and a lot of material and string from his blanket. He does not shred his blankets, but I had a rescue dog in his crate temporarily the other day and she did it. He probably ate the blanket parts trying to make the kong parts vomit up. There was so much in his stomach and intestine that they had to make three incisions to get it all out. It had the intestine accordianed from pulling so much.

So that is todays adventure. The next 3 to 5 days are the critical time for infection or paritonitus so occur. I did manage to get our Christmas tree up while waiting on the vet to call. It sure is proving to be a pretty stressful end to what was mostly a good year.

Scuba Steve and I both thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Well, I think Scuba Steve has another obstruction, his second in about 8 weeks. I tried to get him in to my regular who did his surgery last time. She is away for the holiday. I have been driving to every vet in the area trying to have him admitted but they are all either full of closed. I finally found a little, out of the way, vets office that I have heard good things about and they where able to take him in.

As I type this they have just called. It IS an obstruction and he is on his way into surgery. I should know more in a couple of hours. They did try to calm me by saying they had a Berner that has had this surgery 6 times now for eating wash cloths. I feel like such a bad dad for letting him get this again. I guess he will just be on house arrest for the rest of his life, no more running in the yard with the rest of the dogs

Oh no Joe!! What a horrible thing to have happen, and then to have everyone closed or full. :'( That just doesn't seem right. Thank goodness for these folks who took him in. Poor baby.

If it makes you feel any better (seems like you just said this to me a couple of days ago ), when Angus had his surgery my vet was telling me he put the surgery on a difficulty level with a spay and neuter. He, too, has had several repeat customers. :-\

I hope Scubs does fine in surgery. Angus' took about 20 minutes! Keep us posted!

Please keep us posted...I have found no matter what you do they will get into most anything. I accidentally left my St. Louis Cardinal baseball team game hat out while ago and Tal got it and chewed on the rim. >

Well, at least I will be fashionable..lol

Oh Joe, thank goodness the surgery went alright. Man, you are so industrious, getting your tree up while waiting! Poor Scubs, I hope he won't be too sore afterwards. That sounds like an awfully intense surgery. We'll be continuing to think good thoughts for you all! Thanks for the update.
