We just moved to the country, so I new to the area of Ticks. I found my first tick on my dog today. We were able to remove the whole tick with tweezers. I called the vet and she said that common practice is to wait and watch. Watch for lethargy, and lameness. They didn't want to see the tick, and test it.
Is this common practice? He has to go to the vets for his annual next week. She said we can discuss preventitives then.
As far as preventitives go, Do I go with a color or a topical? Am I just over reacting....?
Frontline monthly is very effective for fleas and tics.
Don't worry, I find tick on my dogs on a weekly basis(just found one on my Yellow yesterday, embedded right above his eye) Just yank it out and move on.
I do use Frontline Plus, you may want to ask your vet for a 3 month supply.
Right now I use advantage for Fleas, can I use that in combination with frontline? Or is that overkill?
Well Frontline covers fleas, too, so you could just switch to Frontline.
I would not use both at the same time. When it is time to apply another application, use Frontline
I think Frontline has lost its effectiveness. For the past couple years folks have been complaining that 3 weeks after applying they are finding fleas. I switched to Advantix 2 years ago and I am PLEASED. I live a flea-ville and ticks are already out.
K9 Advantix isn't an option for us because we have cats and it's toxic to them.
I've been informed that Frontline doesn't work anymore. I just remove ticks manually when I find them.
