Troll?

Ok, this may be a stupid question but what is a "Troll". I can gather they are not posting intelligent questions but what is the purpose and where do they come from? Is the purpose to just get a rise out of people?

troll is someone why TRYS to upset the board. We know enough that we arent "upset" but play along and get them going.
Its the same thing with the people that come and say they love their dog and beat him with a stick because he peed on the floor and whys he still peeing on the floor.
