cover the dog's cage with a sheet or something?
I know this sounds crazy but if I have to have Mad's in the cage because I anm too busy to keep an eye on her, she barked and barked at the cats and kids. One day when I could not handle the barking, I discovered a throw blanket in the livingroom and covered up the cage so that she could not see the cats sauntering around, low and behold, she fell asleep.
I feel like she is a bird, but until I can be with her full-time she is quite content.
If I have people over and I need to have someone in the bedroom for the computer of another reason then I cover her crate with a blanket and it works well.
We had to do that when Toby was a pup in order to get him to sleep.

I keep a cover over Cricket's crate because she likes "cave like" spaces..Lucy, no, she gets too hot.
I never really tried to cover Tal's crate and he seems to do just fine. Now that he is bigger the one time I did he got hold of part of the blanket..lol
I tried to once with Brigetta, but she kept trying to pull it through the bars of her crate.

I've done that when they were puppies and it made them more content. Once they got bigger I didn't do it anymore.
Yes, it makes it more "den like" and the dogs seem to like it. I do this at dog shows all the time, to give my dogs a bit more privacy so they can relax. i do leave the front uncovered, but generally throw a blanket over the back, top and sides.
The crate we have for the foster dogs is a wire one & if they are antsy we throw a blankie & poof they are asleep in no time. The crate we have for Daisy is a HUGE one I free cycled it is wire. In the winter we put a thicker blanket over the back & backsides that are closest to the wall to hopefully keep the draft & chill off her. I don't know if it helps her but it gives US peace of mind.

Even though Corby is only in the crate when we're out of the house, I have a heavy-cotton sheet over the back two-thirds, just for that cave effect. Once I left an old quilt near the front, and he pulled it in and shredded it > But he leaves the sheet alone. Never thought about taking it off, now that he's older!
