Just wanted to reminded everyone to please stop and consider where you walk your dogs. Dangers lurk every where. I had really thought of taking my dogs with me on this outting, the plantation (Magnolia Plantation) allows dogs. I'm sure glad I didn't. I walked right up on this big boy... sunning his head on the trail. He was rubbing his head back and forth on the ground. I was sure thankful my dogs were at home!
I got within about five feet of this guy trying to get a good exposure (his head was in a little bit of sun, the rest of his body was in the shade of the woods).
Finally, he had enough and he got up and walked off the trail and down into the water.
Check out his teeth!!! Including his tail, he was appx. 7 to 8 feet.
As much as the photographer in me wanted to get on the ground to get a better shot, I was leery to do so. These things can move, and move FAST.
That's scary! I used to live in Hilton Head and I would always worry about my animals and alligators!

And I thought snakes on the trail were bad enough!
Oh my gosh!
Yikes...definately was a good thing you left them at home. I wouldn't have got even that close
Oh my! I'm sure glad you didn't have your dogs with you. If dangers like that lurk there, and they do allow dogs, then I really think they ought to post signs so that owners and pets know to keep an eye out!
Wow! Nice sized gator. He's really pretty too. That's probably how they keep the gators fed.Originally Posted by einsteins legacy
Holy crap! That's a really impressive photo, BTW.
I'm glad your dogs were home, too.
