Sam and I met a trainer Friday after work for his evaluation as a therapy dog. Of course being the anal type over controlling worrier I am, I was all in a state about what she would be looking for and could he do it, and what if she wanted me to whatever etc. And best i could see all she did was call him to her several times, and then she pinched him on the flank, pretty hard. He just turned his head and looked at her, like what'd you do THAT for. She said PERFECT, and that was it. Said he would be great and began talking about the specifics of what homes they went to and when and how things worked etc. Gave me the name of the woman who organizes it all and I haven't called her yet, but will soon.
And she had me put him in a down stay and walk off, which is no problem for him, but then she brought her Great Dane over and Sam got up. She said if he'd stayed down with a new dog as a distraction she would have told me he probably didn't need to be in her Obedience II class, but since he got up, it would be a good class for him to take, and I agree. So we are to start that class tomorrow night.
She talked about Obedience titles and how I should consider getting in to some of that but I don't know........if I get stressed out over a simple evaluation how would I be in a ring????????????? :-\
And off the subject, thanks to everyone who took a minute to welcome Sam I Am's SIL. Those were some NICE replies!!! :-*
You've given Sam a great foundation for therapy work. I hope you both enjoy the next obedience classes.

That's awesome Frances...Great job Sam!
I think it's great that you're going to do therapy; animals bring such joy to children, the elderly, and people who are ill. Bless you for sharing your gift with others.
Frances, I just can't say it enough. The progress that you've shown with him is amazing, you should be very proud of yourself and Sam!! ;D ;D ;D
