A couple days ago, the west bound freeway in Honolulu had to be completely closed just before rush hour because a truck carrying a crane damaged a pedestrian overpass. The overpass was crumbling and cracking after the impact, so the highway department decided right away to close the freeway, get a crew to demolish the overpass on that side of the freeway as soon as possible. News reports were reporting "the worst traffic jam in Hawaii history."
Stuck in traffic, we called our neighbor from the car, a Captain in the Coast Guard, gave him the instructions on the alarm system and locks and asked him to let the dog out and to just leave him in the locked back yard. It took four and a half hours for what is usually a 4o minute drive!
When we pulled into the garage, our neighbor came out and said that the dog went out to the yard, pee'd a couple times and he left him in the back. He said he came back when he heard some barking, so he brought out his water bowl, brought out a couple chew toys from the house, gave him a rawhide bone from the stash in the garage, fed him a heaping bowl of kibble (probably five or six times the amount he usually gets) and then put him in the crate.
I think the two of them are dear friends now. ;D
Awww. Good neighbors are priceless! Great story. So glad you have someone near you that you can count on!
Wow, great neighbor. It is nice to have someone you can count on to help out in a pinch!
What a great neighbor!! I bet the dog appreciated it even more

Wow...that is a great neighbor.
What a great neighbor...and what a relief for you!
4 1/2 hours......WHOA!
Oh that's really great that you have neighbors you can count on!
What's even more surprising is that he and his wife have two cats . . . although I suspect that he's a closet dog guy, or so it seems.
