Watch the video if you can. Does this look like it would work?

I don't understand the knots (I can't envision what kind they are), but if it works, that's very clever!

I think it looks pretty cool. I can see how it would work if the dog were to get caught and how it would be easy to pull the knots apart to free them if they got caught on another dog while playing.

    I am intrigued!

The only flaw I could think of is that the part that attaches to the leash might catch on something, in which case it wouldn't loosen. But apparently someone else thought of that too, because I see now there is a "new and improved" version that only has the id ring, no leash attachment. olice:

Would you believe, I was just looking at that very same collar on the REI website?! lol

My heart just sinks every time I remember your story- and Robin's, too!- of one dog getting caught in the other's collar. While it's OK for them to be "naked" in the house, like you I'm not comfortable letting them out in the yard without a collar and tag.

I've spent time off and on this weekend looking at various collars: breakaway, velcro, and now this Knot-a-Collar. The breakaway collars (and I found two different types) would probably work, but if Trapper or Katie got out of the yard (which happened when I carelessly left the back gate unlatched once- stupid, stupid me) the collar would be useless for someone to help catch them or bring them back home.

The velcro collar would be easy enough to undo... provided I was there when they got tangled.

So I think the "improved" Knot-a-Collar is the way I'll go. It looks easy enough to slip on when we let them out, we can attach a name tag, and if one dog gets tangled, the collar should loosen up enough.

HMmmmmmm.... Looks pretty good. I worry about Skippy and Emilu - she is always pulling him around by his collar (or trying to)

Trappers Mom, I am so tempted.

OTOH, I don't know if I will ever feel 100% safe with a collar again.

    :-\

I guess I could order them and just play with them and see if I thought they seemed foolproof before I put them on.

I do think this is the best option I've seen. I'm with you, the breakaway collars break away a little too easily. Kevin HATES them with a passion...he was always trying to grab Angus by the collar, and *snap* it was off. This was inevitably followed by loud cursing. And can you imagine how surprised someone trying to catch your dog would be if, *snap* it just came off in their hand? It always caught me by surprise, even though I knew it was designed to do that.

The bad thing about these, for my boys, is that Angus LOVES rope toys. LOVES them. He hasn't had one since he was a puppy because of a tendency to treat them as a food item :, so I'm afraid if one of these was on Simon he would be like YUM YUM! Lunch!

LOL! I can empathize with the rope toy fixation. Perhaps you could also get a bottle of Bitter Apple? :P

I just wonder how easily they will slide apart if the dog gets caught? If it doesn't slip from a decent tug- from any angle on the collar- it'd be just like tightening a clothesline. Shudder.

I really liked the velcro idea, but again, you have to be right there.
