So Dale has a sock fetish. If there is a loose sock in his vicinity he will put it in his mouth. Ok, he'll even lick the socks if theyre on your feet (mostly hub's - clean or dirty he doesnt care). Problem is once he gets a sock in his mouth and he sees that you caught him, he first looks at you like "you dont see this sock in my mouth" and/or "I swear, i didnt put it there!". Then as I tell him to drop it (which he hasnt quite gotten yet but knows "leave it" so I use that mostly) - he starts the game of "you cant catch me". He's a quick little guy when he wants to be and can go on with his little game all day if you let him (which I dont). Question is - how do I get him to leave the sock without the chase game?!??!??! ???
And yes, the easy solution would be for people to put their socks in the hamper instead of leaving them in every room... but thats a whole other thread!
Taz does the same thing! So funny.
I gave up chasing and now start praising.
"good boy you found a sock come and bring it to me! Good boy"
He drops I pet everybody happy. ;D
Most will trade sock for treat.
Ah the ultimate question....is it easier to train the dog to leave the sock?
or train the husband to put the (insert clothing object here) in the hamper?
Let me know if anyone has this figured out. :
Maybe this is where "You cant teach an old dog new tricks" came from!!! ;D ;DOriginally Posted by apollosmom
ha! Molly just steals the sock...or underwear or bra riiiight out of the hamper!!!!
I usually trade <insert object> for a small treat and praise her for dropping it
