My vet had suggested play dates with other dogs for Tucker, with her dogs.* She called last night, and we went over tonight.* What a hoot!
At present, she has 6 dogs (one cat was sneaking looks from behind a door).* 2 are mixed, fosters she has for awhile (they won't go near humans, but will go around other dogs), a 12 yo yellow lab, 10 mo. old german shorthaired pointer, 2 yo australian cattle dog, and a lovely older whippet.
We arrive, and go into the house...she brings her dogs into the house one at a time, so not to overwhelm Tucker.* Things were fine, sniffing and all, 'til the pointer started snapping at him.* Vet said she's never done this with other dogs at all before; she kept correcting the pointer for snapping.* Tucker just looked bewildered.**
We all went out back then, except the whippet..she left it in the house.* The older lab wasn't playing, but just enjoyed watching everything. For the longest time, the dogs played AROUND each other, but not WITH each other much.* * :-\
She also has 2 horses, so Tucker was curious to see them up close.* He did fine, and stayed where I told him to, not getting too close to the fence or running into the field to them.
They also feed turkeys and deer that come from the woods beyond their yard.* So we got to watch a doe and fawn come in to feed.* Tucker watched the fawn really well....he sat and stayed, and didn't try to chase it.
The last 1/2 hour we were there, the dogs were finally playing some, and chasing each other.* The pointer had quit snapping by then, and she and Tucker were playing tug with an old rag.* He and the cattle dog were playing too.* So, we're gonna do it again....they'll probably play better next time, after this first visit getting acquainted.
The cattle dog leaps high into the air to catch his favorite toy...his tire.* What a funny sight, these dogs together.* *
Sounds like Tucker was a very good boy and had lots of fun ;D
