Aly had another vet checkup today. She is no longer considered to be in critical condition and is expected to recover! I can't tell you how much of a relief it is not to wonder hour by hour, wheeze by horrible wheeze, whether your dog will die.
I owe a debt of gratitude to each of you who has taken a moment to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you, also, for your notes of support. They were so helpful.
We don't have another radiograph (AKA X-ray) scheduled until Friday, so I hope to feel a whole lot better when the pictures confirm what the doctors have said. In the meanwhile, Aly is still on an oral antibiotic, an inhaled antibiotic, an expectorant, an oral antihistamine, a broncodialator, and something for the congestion. We are still nebulizing her for an hour twice a day (nothing like a 4 AM nebulizing to get one raring to go for the day- not!) and I am still cautions, but she is clearly an entirely different dog than she was just two days ago.
Thank you everyone for your positive thoughts and prayers; they mean the world to me.* I wanted to give everyone a brief update.
In addition to the X-rays yesterday morning, Aly had more bloodwork done last night.* Although the X-ray showed just a small bit of improvement, the blood work indicated that her white blood cell count was back to normal!* This suggests that she is not longer fighting an infection. She will stay on the same course of treatment, but it was comforting to see that improvement.*
DH and I purchased a nebulizer (the machine that blows the air through the breathing apparatus), and the vet mixed her meds into treatment portions so that we could nebulize from home.* What a relief it was to be able to roll out of bed and do the treatment, rather than having to load Aly into the car and drive an hour round trip twice a day to the vet.*
She will go back into the vet on Wednesday (tomorrow) for another checkup.
Continued prayers appreciated!
Oh~ and she caught a baby bunny this morning.* Sad, but wonderful all at the same time, because it means she is back to her same old tricks.*
Still worried, but much more hopeful.
