Re: Phoenix Area Peeps, Gilbert opened a dog park with a pond
Congratulations on that new park. That is a nice big lake. All dog parks should have a swimming hole. It's so funny when someone throws out a bumper and every Lab, by instinct, leaps in after it.
From experience with our park I can see that your lake water is a bit muddy. When we first opened our park, the swimming holes soon became a mess from all of the dogs climbing in and out. The banks collapsed and everything became a mud wallow. Of coures the dogs didn't mind but people were complaining. We have three ponds so to fix the problem we would close one off and drain it. Then we paved an apron down into the water to stabilize the bank, stabilized the bottom, added some aeration lines, and added a granite gravel trail all around the perimeter. After refilling the water was tinted to help retard algae. The results were so fantastic that we had to post signs stating that the ponds were for dogs only.
Here is a before an after shot of Freckles in the water.
