1mg per pound is what I was told- make sure its plain Benedryl - I must not have any cold medicine or sudafed in it. Watch for any serious swelling of sounds of respiratory distress.
Nellie weighs 100 pounds and gets one pill or a child's dosage.
If your dog will let you, soak a couple of cottonballs in white vinegar and hold it on the sting. That will draw out some of the toxins and help with the swellling. It would be preferable to apply it for several minutes but might be difficult. The longer you can keep it on the better. I would imagine red or any other type of vinegar would do if you don't have the white.

Zoe gets 3 tablets; each tab is 25 mg; she weighs between 68-71 pounds.

For something acute like a sting, I will give 3 of the 25 mg tablets twice a day. Like Eric said, make sure its just plain benedryl, not anything with cold meds in it.
