psssst Ill let you in on a little secret! we use a human rattail (fine tooth) comb if we feel they need that kind of brushing! You can usually find them at walmart and such but we buy our cheap from the beauty supply store here.

I have one. It's just a comb with close teeth. If I use it to comb a thick coat like Mitzi's, it pulls her so she doesn't like it. It goes right through Judy's thin coat, but she doesn't need it. A flea comb would do the same thing and be less expensive.

Looks similar to the "Furminator" which I got on QVC. It can do some pulling, but it's awesome for getting out my yellow boys undercoat. Doesn't do anything for my black boy; because of the difference in their coat texture.

Thanks for the help. When I saw the FURminator, it reminded me of the Shedender. I was curious to see if any were worth the money.

it pulls out too much of their undercoat leaving them with little or no protection.

The same could be said for nail clippers . . . any tool used excessively or improperly has the potential to cause harm.

I prefer the Zoom Groom made by Kong. Duke really likes the messaging effect while it removes the loose fur. Some of these products do seem to remove fur that doesn't "want" to be removed. I was warned about excessive use of the grooming rake for that reason.
