Is it proper to let your dog dominate a smaller dog? My dog just got dominated by a larger dog at the park . The owner said he was just playing and let him do it so we leashed up and left. ???
What do you mean, 'dominate'? Can you elaborate?
well the other dog standing on top of my dog while my dog is on his back , the other dog is barking and growling at my dog. Then when my dog gets up it happens again ,Then he tried mounting from behind. How is that for trying to explain ?
It's common for larger older dogs to roll the pups. They are establishing pack order in the park. We let it happen with our lab when he was young. We just intervened when it looked like the larger older dog was a bully and not just doing the normal dog thing.
You have to use your judgement and decide if the behavior was normal or out of hand. You can tell by watching the other dog's demeanor. Just cuz you have a scared puppy doesn't mean the other dog was doing something bad or agressive...
No, I wouldn't consider that acceptable.
I agree. Natural or not, I don't want other dogs humping my dogs or pinning them and not letting them up...I wouldn't let my dogs do those things either.Originally Posted by kaytris

It all depends and you have to be the judge. What you say sounds like a bit much, but if he is going back, in my opinion, he's probably just fine. When Phoebe was little she was on her back all the time at the dog park. As long as there was no yelping/blood/obvious attacking I let them sort it out. It is a judgement call. If your dog is running away with his tail between his legs or something like that, you will know. Watch his body language.

I think the other dogowner should have put his/her dog on a leash.Ditto that!Originally Posted by JacksAndLabs

Isn't your pup a little young to be going to the dog park?
