Checking for ticks on a black dog is hard! Molly (and abby too) uses K9 Advantix and when we're at the beach we usually spritz them with some Adam's Flea and Tick Spray just as an extra something but I always check just in case after swimming etc...
Since Molly is black and ticks are black it makes it that much harder for me since her fur is so thick! I part her fur as best I can and look all over her body (I also check face, ears, paws and tummy) and then I run my fingers against the grain of her fur.
Are there any other tips/tricks that I should know about or am I doing a good job? Just curious

No ideas here. But I agree, after we went camping, I did the best I could checking Scotty and praying that I did not miss any ticks.
I don't know the best way either. I try several times a day to run my hands over the dogs to feel for any lumps. Of course if I feel something it means they have been there a while and are attached.
