Ultimate Air Dogs had an event at a sportman's show in the next town. I really wanted to let Payton have a shot at it, as she had jumped off piers into lakes several times. My daughter and her 6 week old baby drove down from MN so her GR could give it shot, too.
When we got there, Payton was quite jazzed- dogs, people, dogs taking practice runs, she was on high alert. The announcer was VERY helpful to us newbies. He took the time to have Payton walk up the exit ramp, and toss the toy into the pool from there. This is exactly what Snowflake ( Nancy) said to do, also. At first Payotn was a little hesitant, she paused, but then jumped in after it. This was at the water level- no height involved. Then we did it again, and she jumped with more gusto- good. Next we took her up on the platform. She was running around up there just having a ball. We showed her the edge of the dock and let her look into the water. We only stepped a few feet back, and she lept in after the wubba. They let us practice a little further back and by this time she was into it! We took her back half the length of the dock, she ran and lept just she does at the lakefront-
There were 2 groups of six dogs in her "splash". She was able to do 2 "official" jumps- one was 14' 8" and the other was 13' 8". Not long, but a very good effort on her first tries. I think the one she stopped at the edge of the dock, but then we guided her back and she eventually jumped in! They were very laid back, and allowed 2 handlers on the deck, so I could steady Payton and DH could toss the toy.
DD's dog, Scout was scared of the exit ramp. But he eventually got the hang of it, too (Payton had experience w/ something like that in the agility class we took) Scout did well, too 14"4" and 13" 1". I also think we need practice w/ our throws.
Payton cracked me up. During the warm ups, she was watching all the dogs, but she took "special" notice when her best friend Scout was on deck- She was barking louder like she was cheering for him. Myhands were full, as I had Payton to control PLUS I had my 6 week old granson in a front carrier- hence no pictures right now. we had quite a three ring circus going. HaHA
Anyway I would recommend it to anyone, and can understand how Snowflake and her hubby have a great time w/ their talented dogs.
sounds like a lot of fun glad payton had such a good time.

Ah-ha!! Another dock diving addict!!! And 14'8" is absolutely awesome for her first official jump!!
Glad you had a good time. There are some other events coming up in Wisconsin...DockDogs events. I'll post them later.
Soon you'll be traveling all over the country....buying special vehicles just to carry your dog and equipment!

Nice job Payton!!
My pretty girl, Lexi!
Nice job Payton! I know how much fun they have because Mitzi and Bruno love to jump off the dock. Judy tried it once and didn't like it. She swims, but doesn't jump.
Dock Dogs is having one of their best events of the year near you in June. You've just gotta go to this one!! I would give ANYTHING if I could go. I swear, I would gladly drive all the way from Georgia up there just to go to this event!
