    DefaultSigh...hot spots!

Sam is frustrating me with his constant licking of two spots on his legs. I give him benadryl and we put a topical spray on both spots twice a day for several days and they start to heal very quickly. Then we stop with the benadryl and the spray and he is back to licking and not giving the hot spots time to heal completely. I don't want to cone head him but how else will he allow these two spots to heal if he keeps licking them ? I know there was a thread on hot spots a few weeks ago....I'm not sure if this is the same issue or not.

Is the benadryl bad to use until they are completely healed?

I'm not sure, I usually have him on it for about 5 - 7 days. The spots look like they are getting better, then we stop with the benadryl and the spray and a few days later they are red again.

I hope Sam gets better. I posted once about Hot Spots, but turned out Trooper didn't have them, but a staph infection or allergic reaction.
Trooper feels for Sam! Get better, buddy!

    Thanks Troopers Mom!

Kiddsmom, thanks for the link. That sounds exactly like what Sam has. Though I think its more from allergies rather then boredom or stress. Cuz Sam is far from stressed out LOL

I called my vet today to ask how long I could keep my little dog Prudence on Benadryl because she has bad allergies and she told me it was fine to keep her on it until her skin was healed. I would call your vet and ask if it was ok for Sam. Hope Sam feels better soon!
