    DefaultMolly met a parrot today...

It was the coolest thing ever!! I took her to Petsmart for her free nail trim (for graduating puppy class lol) and we were walking around after to buy some treats and this man walked in with a parrot on his shoulder. The parrot saw molly and kept on going "dog...arf! arf!" it made me laugh soooo hard.

The man asked if it was ok for him to come closer and I was intrigued so I said ok, he put the bird on the ground and it walked over to Molly and tilted it's head going "arf! arf!" to which Molly of course tillted her head and barked. It was the neatest bird I've ever met! His name was Arnold and he was about 65 years young (that's what the man said)

He told me they have a lab/rottie at home who the parrot adores and I assume that's why he liked Molly so much. I wish I had a camera. To be honest I half expected Molly to try and pounce at him but she just sat and stayed, tilting her head the whole time!

65 years in PARROT years, or what? They don't live that long, do they? ???

They live a VERY VERY long time if I remember right.
At one of our pet stores we had here there was a parrot that fell in love with my mom for some reason. They wanted to cut her a deal on the bird because I guess parrots are pretty much one person birds. The cost of the bird and life span was just to much for my mom to even think about with 2 kids. But I would have LOVED to have a parrot!

    How cool!

We have a Scarlet Macaw and a Lesser Sulfer Crested Cockatoo - they can live 60 to 80 years but they are suseptable to illnesses like any other animal.

In our house the dog know to stay clear from the birds, the birds try to bite their tails!

Oh gosh! some parrots live to a 100 years. Cockatoos...big white bird that can be taught to talk...they have a life span of 100 years.
I have a cockatiel...much much smaller version of sorts of a Cockatoo and it has a life span of 20 years. My cockatiel is only 3 years old right now.

I believe African greys and such also have life spans of 80-100 years or so although I am not sure.

I think it was Winston Churchill who owned a Cockatoo or a parrot of some kind who outlived him. This bird used to hang out with him all the time even when he was in office. The bird learned how to swear just like him and knew a lot of the words and phrases he used often. Once Churchill passed away his family inherited the bird. The bird died a couple years back.

    It's all pretty cool!
