I don't always want to put Rocky in his crate when traveling in the car and was wondering what products are out there to use as a safety restraint for him when we take short trips here and there.
We use a seatbelt harness with great success... Ender learned throug a little trial and error how NOT to get tangled up in it. We feel safe and he gets to roam and stick his head out the window.

There are doggy seat belts out there. It's a harness that you can attach to your car seat belt...I saw them at Petco. I am sure other petstores would have them too.
Here's a link...hope it works

If you already own a harness, you can buy just the piece that clips onto the harness on one end (like a leash) and into the seat belt on the other... under $10!

We use the harness attachment thing like Jo said. We bought ours at petsmart...it looks like a leash handle just like she said
Petsmart had 2 "sizes" one is thinner and the other thicker. In fact I need to get a thicker one.

e also use the harness with the strap. Sammi love's going for rides in mom's jeep. The Kennel won't fit so this keep's her safe-- ;D- We have had to get a bigger harness since this was taken-lol!!
We use the 3-in-1 Dog Vest Harness for Shadow. Got it before we picked him up so he's always been in the car with it.
Here's a link to a good picture and information on it. I really like it.

Picked mine up at the local petshop.
we used the harness for a while with shayna after she had her knee surgery
we wanted to keep her from roaming around the truck too much
we kept it short so she couln't jump up to look out the window
but she was able to stand & lay down comfortably.
it works great!
Henry's been using a seat-belt harness ever since he outgrew the crate that would fit on our backseat!!
This is the one we have... http://champk-9.com/CCSS.htm.
I also bought an attachment that connects the harness right to the anchor point in the seat, that metal bar that you would attach a child's carseat to. There's less slack this way (vs attaching via the seatbelt itself) and less things for your dog to get tangled in. We used to have a harness that attached to the seatbelt and Henry would get tangled every which way, so this new attachment works great!
