DefaultWe're ready for our close-up! (The boys' photo session today)

    To Nance, With love, Connie

We went to the annual humane association fundraiser today to have the boys' portrait made together. We did this last year with Angus, some of you might remember. They got about six pictures of him, five of which were out of focus because he kept leaping out of the frame. We were hoping that a year would make a huge difference.

A year does not really make a huge difference.

Well, he did do a little better, but stay is apparently never going to be his strong suit.

We came into the studio. I was wrangling Angus and Kevin was wrangling Simon. I positioned Angus in a front on the backdrop. The photographer instructed, "OK, I need him just where he is but about three feet closer." So I backed up three feet and got him to front again. "WOW! HE IS GOING TO BE GREAT!" she exclaimed. Kevin and I rolled our eyes and said, "No, don't get too excited yet."

With two dogs, there is an even greater degree of difficulty, we discovered. Ideally, the two should be side by side, snuggled up with their heads together. This is not a pose found in nature. Well not with our two.

After much experimentation (which I'm sure looked like some kind of dog rodeo gone horribly wrong), we developed a strategy. It seemed to work to put Simon where we wanted him and tell him to stay, then position Angus in relation to Simon. Simon does stay like a statue.

Angus would do the initial position perfectly. Front or heel, we tried them both, and they worked like an absolute charm. The photographer was impressed, the assistants, even I was impressed with how close together I had them.

But then, the photographer would pull out a squeaky toy.

I am lecturing from the sidelines, "Angus, STAY. STAY. STAY!" Angus' eyes would flit back and forth between me and the squeaky toy, me, squeaky toy, me..."OH SCREW YOU I WANT THAT SQUEAKY TOY!"

    "Click."

    :

At least we had one who was behaving.

After several rounds of squeaky toy bedlam, the photographer decided she had what she needed and the hounds were released. We chased Angus around the room, pried the rubber chicken from his jaws and returned it, Simon licked the camera lens in gratitude for her time, and we were on our merry way.

Everyone took a two-hour nap when we got home. All of us.

Hopefully in a week or two I'll have a pic of both of the boys. It will be interesting to see what results this yields!

That was a great story! I can see all the action and can't wait to see the pictures.

I feel your pain. That's why most of my pictures are taken when my 3 are sleeping.

Connie, I do love your stories...
and I look forward to seeing the picture, although I am sure the boys will look like mature, disciplined specimens of the canine world.

Just a suggestion... Next time take a third person with a video camera. It won't help with the photo session but you'll be able to post a funny video on JL. ;D

I do have some pretty funny videos of them on DV. Not of the photo shoot, sadly I do want to learn how to post those one day. There is one of Kevin teaching Angus not to bite when he was about four months old...OMG, it makes my stomach hurt from laughing so hard...
