Dash got a present for my birthday this weekend (go figure!) and it was a fairly large rawhide bone. Well, need-less-to-say, he LOVED IT and ate about 75% of it in one sitting. His nose looks as if its now peeling and alot of my fellow dog-owners had told me not to worry about because it was from him tearing up the rawhide and it had rubbed his nose a bit raw, but it just looks as if his little nose is peeling, like a snake. It doesnt look irritated at all! Has anyone ever heard or expereinced this?
AND.... he now has diarihea (bad spelling) not uncontrollable, but enough to where he went in his crate last night while we watched fireworks and this morning. I am willing to bet that last night's was because of the loud fireworks everywhere, but do pups normally get the "runs" from rawhide?
Haven't experienced the nose peeling. But the ONE time that Toby had a rawhide, even though he only got it for short amounts of time, always supervised, he got the runs. He loved the rawhide, but I think we won't repeat it.
Toby and Chamois say: GO STEELERS!
If he is not used to eating it, it will cause that problem. If you give it to him, give for short supervised intervals. Raven is a chewer and would eat a rawhide very quickly, we monitor her closely and take it away after a little while.
Zakk has just been exposed to rawhide and he has not had any problems so far. He will chew it for a while and then go to something else.
J&A have experienced extremely loose stools after the few times they have consumed rawhide.

Throw the ball, damn it!
Rider doesn't get rawhides because he gets the squirts and I am afraid of blockage.

Thanks for all your posts, but has anyone ever experienced the nose peeling?
