I ran out of doggie toothpaste. I'm dog sitting until next week so I wasn't planning any trips to the pet store until he goes home. This may be a stupid question, but is it ok to use human toothpaste to brush Buddy's teeth for a few days?
Yes. Just use a very small amount.
Wow, I didn't know human toothpaste is okay. What about a bit baking soda?Originally Posted by raian

Forget the tooth brushing and just give him a marrow bone
Just a touch of it. My vet said it is the flouride in it that isn't good for them. But my last lab loved the Aim I used if I ran out of her tooth paste.
Oh, I was going to say not at all or baking soda But good to know that human is OK once in a while in a pinch.
I bought toothpaste for Simon before we went on vacation. Guess I'll bust it out this weekend and try it.

Crash, Pit Bull x Rottweiler x Golden Retriever
I just tried some. He seemed to like it better than the chicken flavor!!!
I'm with Nicole. Give him marrow bones. I've had 3 labs and their teeth have always been white and I never brush. As for the flouride, there is flouride in drinking water and it is not removed by a filter so we are all giving our dogs flouride. It will not hurt them.
I use the peppermint Tom's of Maine "people" toothpast on Lily ~ She didn't really like the doggie toothpaste ;D
