DefaultGoose poop + pond scum = giardia flare-up

Earlier in the week I posted about our pup making a buffet of goose poop, pond scum and cat food... despite doing OK on Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday things took a turn for the worse and this morning I took a sample in and not surprisingly he has giardia.

Back on the rice and starting the meds, he already seems better...

Do y'all vaccinate your dogs for giardia? At what age? Does it work?

    Thanks!

Fort Dodge makes a Giardia vaccine. Avoid it. I avoid Fort Dodge products altogether. They were the makers of a heartworm vaccine that killed quite a few dogs and it was pulled off the market.

My kids get Giardia several times a year. I would not bother with the vaccine, 'cause it's effectiveness is questionable and it is made by Fort Dodge. I just keep a stock of the giardia meds (I use Flagyl, others use Panacur), and deal with it as it arises.

Yup... Ender has giardia too. We keep a stock of panacur and do the 7 days on, 7 days off, 5 days on again dosage... (in our second round... first time vet only gave us enough for 5 days... now I order off the internet!)

Yup... thank goodness... cause for a while I was dealing with the "older" vet (who works with MY vet) and she was insisting that we only do 5 days... yada yada yada...

anyways... I got mine from 1800PetMeds

Look for Safeguard wormer. Same as panacur and you don't need a script.
